Medicare Coverage

Similar to Medicaid, Medicare is a Government sponsored healthcare program that was born out of the Social Security Act of 1965. Medicare is operated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), currently providing health care services to more than 40 million Americans. It is through the CMS that you can apply for Medicare and/or Medicaid or report any problems you are having with your policy.

In order to begin receving Medicare coverage, you must firts meet certain criteria. Eligibility is as follows:

  • Aged 65 or older
  • Certain disabilities
  • Eligible for Social Security
  • Eligible for Railroad Retirement Benefits
The Original Medicare Plan consists of two parts, A & B:

Part A - Covers hospital stays, skilled nursing care / skilled nursing facility care and hospice care.

Part B - Covers doctors' services, outpatient hospital services, home healthcare, etc.

The Medicare + Choice Plan, (Part C) was established in 1997 through the Balanced Budget Act.

Part C - Offers managed care plans and private payment plans.
